Hosted in the City of Ballarat, the 2015 Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships will be held from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11, January.
The 2015 Mars #RoadNats will begin with a bang in the heart of Ballarat on Wednesday 7 January with a twilight criterium to be followed by live music.
And a new course, starting and finishing in Buninyong, will test the field in the individual time trial, on Thursday 8 January. There isn’t a flat stretch of road on the course and the turn-around point is in the shadows of a wind farm, which will ensure tough conditions.
While the weekend’s road races will feature Cadel Evans – in the third last race of his career – trying to go one better than 2014 when he was second to Simon Gerrans, who is hungry to defend his title.
The five-day celebration of cycling will see Australia’s world class cyclists contest the road, time trial and criterium Championships through the streets of Ballarat and surrounding region.
In 2014, a record crowd of over 36,000 people attended the event, with 23,500 attending the mens’ road race alone. This was an increase of 28% increase on the previous year.
As the most prestigious event on the Australian cycling calendar, the MARS Cycling Australia Road National Championships is considered integral in positioning Ballarat as the premier cycling destination not just for professional, but also recreational cycling.
