One of Ballarat’s newer suburbs, Winter Valley, is approximately 5.4 square kilometres.The population of Winter Valley in 2011 was 4,932 people and by the 2016 Census the population was 6,309 showing a population growth of 27.9% in the area during that time.

CoreLogic data indicates that the predominant age group in Winter Valley is 20-29 years with households in Winter Valley being primarily couples with children and are likely to be repaying $1,400 – $1,799 per month on mortgage repayments, and in general, people in Winter Valley work in a trades occupation. In 2011, 72.5% of the homes in Winter Valley were owner-occupied compared with 71.5% in 2016.
